Volunteering

I just thought about something...I never talked about my volunteering experience during the spring. LOL! I can't believe I never blogged about it. Well let's just say it was a so so experience. My shift was from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at one of the top children's hospitals in Georgia, in the emergency department. Of course I thought yayyyyyy!!!! Trauma!!!! (I'm not excited about the suffering of children just the joy of being able to see trauma/medicine up close and personal. My other premeds understand my excitement) NOT!! Man was I in for a rude awaking! Volunteers not only were not aloud to see the serious cases that came through the door, but our job was to just keep the kids occupied while they were waiting for the doctor. SIGH...So my nights pretty much consisted of walking around room to room and through the waiting room keeping the kids occupied. SMH...BULLSHIT! During my rounds I tried as much as I could to talk to the doctors and residents. Some were dry as hell and some were talkative and nice. The nurses were friendly, but sometimes they were bitches, but regardless I made the most of my time there. Overall I met a lot of amazing kids, interesting parents and employees. Even though it was not what I expected at all, I'm still excited to go back for round two this fall. :)

I have some interesting stories to share with you guys, so I'll eventually drop a story or two.

Blog you later!
